LUIS LOPEZ GARCIA

ESP

Luis is a swimmer from Spain, a sprinter and an international traveller on the circuit, whose official competitive record spans 10 seasons, 18 years, 2 countries and 25 meets.

His recorded career begins in 2003 in Delores Bengston Aqu, where he raced the 50 backstroke in 34.91.

His signature event is the 100 freestyle, his reference distance in freestyle, ahead of the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle. Freestyle is the backbone of the whole record: 17 meets and 23 recorded swims.

His fastest 100 freestyle stands at 55.33, set in short course yards (25 yd) at Connecticut Boys SCC Championships.

His record includes national championships, in 2019 (Southern Connecticut Conference Championship Trials). A representative mark at that level is 1:08.91 in the 100 breaststroke, recorded in short course yards (25 yd). His standout long course mark is 24:41.00 in the 800 freestyle, set in 2010 at MI DTW Open Water Fest in long course (50 m).

After a 5-year break between 2010 and 2015, he came back to racing and the record picks up again in 2015.

He is a genuinely international swimmer: the official record spans 2 countries (the United States and Spain), including 17 of 25 meets outside Spain.

Those meets span 13 different venues (New Haven, New Bern, Cary and Miami…). He has raced for 7 clubs, led by Southern Connecticut (SOCO) Aquatics Club, Detroit Recreation Swim Team, Jacksonville Senior High School (NC) and Coral Gables Sr High School.

The last race on record is dated March 4, 2020. He closes this record with 10 current event personal bests and 21 all-time PB improvements, across 46 verified official swims in competitions governed by RFEN and NCAA.
