National Swimming Rankings: How to See Your Federated Position
Quick summary: National swimming rankings are the official list of federated times by event, age and course. Swimer unifies them with SwimCloud and SwimRankings so you can see your global, club and friends position without leaving the app — free and updated nightly.
Knowing where you stand against other swimmers is one of the most powerful motivators in federated sport. National swimming rankings order every licensed swimmer by their best official time in each event (50/100/200/400/800/1500 free, back, breast, fly, IM) within their age group and pool course.
How official federated rankings work
Each national federation (USA Swimming, British Swimming, RFEN, FFN, etc.) generates seasonal rankings from electronically timed performances at official meets. These are the times that count for cuts, scholarships and selection to regional or national teams.
Swimer aggregates these rankings together with SwimCloud and SwimRankings — the two most complete international databases in the world — and cross-references them with your federated identity so you can see your position without having to manually search event by event.
Rankings available in Swimer
- Global by age: your worldwide position within your age group and course (LCM, SCM, SCY).
- National federated: USA Swimming, British Swimming, RFEN or any federation you belong to.
- Club ranking: internal ranking of your club or team members.
- Social: ranking among your Swimer friends (includes non-federated times).
- Per event: filter by 100 free, 200 IM, etc. and compare only on that distance.
Connect your federated identity in 1 minute
From your profile, go to Settings → Federated identity and link your USA Swimming ID, SwimCloud or SwimRankings profile. Swimer will import every official time, classify by course and automatically recalculate your CSS and intensity zones with the latest data.
Why ranking matters for your training
Ranking isn't only motivation: it's objective feedback. Knowing you sit in the 30th percentile of your age in 200 free but in the 70th in 50 free tells you exactly where to prioritize aerobic vs pure speed work. Swimer uses this data to adjust the structure of your blocks.
Privacy and control
Your social ranking position is only visible to friends you accept. Federated times, being public official information, are visible globally as on any federation portal. You can hide your real name and appear with an alias at any time.
